Menu questions: Version Updates; Columnar data in a submenu

Poster: SkyFlyer

I do note have a web site yet. I have most recent menu (within a few weeks).

1. How dces one tell which version of the menu they have? Specifically what and where do I look?

2. How can one tell when there is an updated menu? Is there an email notification? How do I get notified?

3. Is there a way to force the sub-menu to go to the right or left side when it opens. This is in a horizontal menu I am using.

4. I'd like to know if there is anyway one can put some sort of columnar data in a sub-menu. For example, some text to the left side, and a date would be to the right side of the of my scrollable sub-menu list. I have the last entry as a row of dashes to force to a consistent width. Are there some special codes or controls to help me do this?

Any help or point me to some examples would be appreciated.
Thanks

1. You find the version in the milonic_src.js file. If you open it you will see the version listed and date it came out.
2. At the top of the Help and Support Version5 forum is one marked Announcement Current Menu Code. Click on that and then click on watch this topic. You will receive an email notice whenever a new update comes out.
3. There is probably a way. You can find it on the homepage under DHTML Menu, go to menu quick reference guides and then to methods and functions.

4. I'm not sure what it is you are trying to do. Do you want it to be in a sense like a table with two columns, one with the text the other with that date or whatever?

Thanks Ruth for the tips on 1 and 2.
I'll check for the info on number 3.
Yes, exactly on number 4. I just want the text to be left justified and a date to be right justified. Similar to 2 columns, but all in the same sub-menu. This may not be possible, and that is cool

I just encountered another problem.
I just downloaded the latest versionof the menu, and now nothing works.
This is so frustrating as you have no idea where to start.
The only way I have figured out how to debug is to comment out major portions of code and uncomment a little at a time.
I wish the menu would kick out a error log that would give a statement number or some idea where the mistake is.
I know you need to copy milonic_src, mmenudon and mmenuns4.
Do you need to copy menu_data? If you do, then you lose all the code you have set up.
I guess I have to get into a habit of backing up each time I make changes!!!! I'm not giving up! And I know I'm not the only one frustrated!
Thanks ....

No do not copy the menu_data.js file up to the web, only the other 3. The menu_data.js file is YOUR information file, so that would be the same. Sorry, I can't help, without a site I can't see what's going on. What do you mean by nothing works? which version were you using before? are the paths correct? I don't think you can do what you want in the way you want, there may be a way using some kind of js function, but that is beyond me.

OK, I got it, copy only the three files.
I'll try to get up to a web site if I can'f figure it out.
I've found in the past, if I make an error in menu_data, such as a missing quote or semi-colon, or whatever, when I go to Dreamweaver and try the browser, none of the menu shows up. So I have to do a process of elimination until I find the error (like comment out code until I find it).
I'll find it.

However, I cannot find the place that you said to find the Notification button. I looked that page all over and nothing like that.
Might this only work for folks that have bought the menu?
I was going to send you a screen print of it, but don't know how to attach.
I think maybe I should just quit for today and watch the Hockey game!!
Thanks ...

Lower and upper right corners - "Watch this topic for replies".

I just can't find that. I must be lost or on the wrong page.
I am on the Help & Support for Version 5.0.
Don't worry about it.
I just wanted a way to know when there was a new version of the menu to download.

I assume the parameter to force a menu to open right or left is 'openstyle'.
What are some of the parameters that can be used.
I hope eventually a Reference Guide will come out will all available options.
The guides that are there now do not give many options.
Thanks ...

Every post has a link that says "Watch this page".

All the style links you need are below....

I think we are talking about two different things.
I do get the email notification when one of you answer my post.
That part is working OK.

What I am trying find is how to know when there is an update to the menu system. How to know when we go from 5.21 to 5.22 or whatever.
Or do we just have to log on the Milonic and check every few days?

As far as the styles go, my question deals with what the options are for each of the parameters. Such as 'openstyle'. The only options listed are 'rtl' and 'up'. There are probably more. Most of the parameters don't have any options listed. II don't have a clue what should be there. I hope that a complete options list will eventually come out.
I've beat this to death. I'll stop now.
Thanks for your help.

Point #2 in one of Ruth's posts. You need to go to "Current Menu Code Release Info...".

Hi Bob,

Let me see if I can shed any light.

(1) Make sure that you log in to the forums.

(2) Click this link to go to the topic Ruth mentioned ("Announcement: Current Menu Code Release Info...").

(3) If you are logged in, the page you went to should contain a link (mine is at the bottom-left of the page) that says "Watch this topic for replies". If that link doesn't appear, then you aren't logged into the forums (which is why there's step 1 above).

(4) If you have been successful, the link you clicked in step 3 now reads "Stop watching this topic".

I wouldn't necessarily assume that there are more options. If you aren't sure, then you can post a question to the help forum. Or you can try an option that makes sense based on your knowledge of CSS, like 'ltr' (which is actually the default).

I don't know that I'd agree with the "most of" part. Admittedly however, there are parameters listed that show only the parameter name. In many cases, these are more recently added functions of the menu that have not yet been documented. Even so, the "Quick Refs" are the only parameter documentation currently available. If you aren't sure of something, you can always turn to the help forum. Another thing to try is the Search option in the forums: i.e., search the v5 help forum for "openstyle". Often, you will find that someone else has already faced the same issue you are dealing with, and the search will return just the solution you're looking for!

A complete list is definitely going to happen; just a matter of when.

See you in the forums.

Thanks Kevin for the reply.
I had printed an earlier set of the properties off.
After some review, I relized that the current list has more options.
Jumping to conclusions, something I do well!!
I'll just keep logging in and checking up on it.
Thanks ...

Hi,
Are you still not able to get to the watch this topic option for the current menu release?

Thanks Ruth for checking in.
Yes, I finally figured it out.
Some days I feel so dense!
Everything is fine now.
I still wish I could right and left justify data in a sub-menu, but I'm happy the way it works.
Thanks again ...
